Year of establishment: 1959 as a General subject, Honours from 2002

Infrastructure: Departmental room, shares all other central infrastructure of the college like ICT enabled classroom, departmental library. 

Intake capacity: 88 (Total)

Brief of the Department: The department is involved in several academic and co-curricular activities such as participating in quiz competitions, NSS and NCC, essay-competitions, poster-presentation etc. Extension lectures and Special talks are organised every year. The department shares a cordial teacher-student relationship, enriched by regular mentoring session. A course of Communicative English is also conducted by the department, for the students of Sem 1 and 2.

Activities from past years:
Organising essay and poster-presentation competition every year, in response to the awareness programme on 'Vigilence awareness week' conducted by the Land and Soil Survey, Govt of West Bengal, and participating in the annual celebration of Students' Health Home, Vivek Mela conducted by Sri Sarada Math, etc.

Students' Achievements:

  • Most of the students pursuing higher studies, or preparing themselves for job-oriented examinations.
  • In 2018, Pramita Mitra (then a 3rd year student) secured the second position in a state-level debate competition organised by Students' Health Home.
