ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Year of establishment: Honours course in 2006 and General course in 2014.

Infrastructure: Departmental room, 2 well-equipped laboratory, departmental Seminar library and also shares all other central infrastructure of the college like ICT enabled classroom, library with other departments etc.

 

 Brief: . The inception of the B.Sc Honours course in Food and Nutrition in the year 2006 with affiliation to the University of Calcutta. Initially, the number of students enrolled themselves for the Part I Food and Nutrition Honours curriculum was not more than 10. Five years later i.e. in 2011, the college faced a change in affiliation to West Bengal State University, Barasat (North 24 Parganas). Gradually with the expansion of the department, the B.Sc General course in Food & Nutrition started in 2014. Only IInd & IIIrd year gen. students in 2013. The huge popularity of the subject due to its practical aspect and good job prospect, the department has been an important part of the institution since its establishment.

The UG Honours course in Food and Nutrition is structured in an interdisciplinary manner. It contains major sections on Physiology, Epidemiology, Biochemistry, Food Chemistry and Microbiology which are autonomous disciplines in their own right.

 

The department frequently organizes national seminar, workshop, and extension lecture poster presentation, for the development of students’ quality in the first hand and building research oriented mind-set among the student. The department also has highly qualified teacher strength.
