History Department of HMMCW started its journey from 1959 and Honours course was initiated in 1995. It was enriched with dedicated teachers who always tried their level best for academic upliftment of students. Extension lectures/seminars had been arranged and students used to participate in NCC , NSS related activities, Sports, students” seminar of other departments such as Political Science, cultural programmes/dance performances, excursion/ study visit to Indian Museum, WB Itihas Samsad , quiz/debate competition etc. Teachers of the Dept. used to participate in College Seminars, workshops, various cultural programmes, sports, seminars of different academic institutions and published articles in reputed journals etc. It must be added that a vibrant atmosphere always prevails in this department undoubtedly.From taking online classes, participating in webinars and other regular academic activities teachers from the Department of History has been taking part in various outreach activities directly related to the community since and before the lockdown due to Covid-19.From taking online classes, participating in webinars and other regular academic activities teachers from the Department of History has been taking part in various outreach activities directly related to the community since and before the lockdown due to Covid-19.
Regular online Classes during pandemic situation related lockdown stage: Whatsapp, Conference Call ,Google Duo, Google Meet, Teamlink etc. various modes used for online teaching. Youtube lectures had been prepared by some of Dept. teachers ( SACT teachers: Smt. Soumita Mallick and Smt. Aatreyee Bhattacharyya) successfully.
Initiative taken for online Internal Assessments for both Hons. and General classes.
Study materials and question banks uploaded by DR. Sreyasi Ghosh ( Asstt. Prof. And HOD) in College Website: Academic resource bank portion of History Dept.
Online Rabindra Jayanti celebration by students of History Dept. and Youtube presentations related to Rabindra Pranam related themes under supervision of Smt. Aatreyee Bhattacharyya ( SACT teacher) and DR. Madhumita Mondal ( Asstt. Prof.).

Participation in various cultural programmes of the college by Dept. faculty Smt. Ranjana Banerjee ( at present SACT teacher) by performing Rabindrasangit .
Extension lectures delivered by renowned scholars such as Prof. Sachindranath Bhattacharyya ( Retired Professor of Museology of C.U.). Dept. teachers such as Smt . Maitrayee Mukherjee and Smt. Monjila Khatun ( now SACT teachers) actively gave endeavour in arrangement of those programmes ( Extension lectures on Museology dated 24.4.2019 and 26.8.2019).
Webinar arranged by History Dept. on 04.6.2020 on the theme related to Pandemics in History and speaker was DR. Sahara Ahmed ( Associate Professor and HOD of History Dept. of RBU). Teachers of many departments of HMMCW, and from various other academic institutions participated in that webinar.
Dept. cultural programme ( Agamoni Utsav) on empowerment of women related themes on 30.9.2019. Performance of students of History Dept. made it enriching.
Dept. cultural programme by students of 2nd and 4th semester on themes related to farewell of 3rd year students and Basanta Utsav ( Dated- 03.3.2020).
