Principal’s Desk

Greetings from the Principal, Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women(HMMCW)

HMMCW is a premier educational institution under West Bengal State University. Its student culture is as vibrant and cultured, as its origin is with holy mission. HMMCW was established by late Shri Amritalal Mazumdar who in the memory of his son established this college in 1959 for promoting education among the women of Dakshineswar locality. Shri Amritalal Mazumdar was a visionary, a philanthropist and had a vision for women’s education. He saw women’s education as an exercise for the nation's growth and created this academic shelter as a leading place for women to emerge as leaders in all fields of the world. Be it academics, extra-curricular or co-curricular activities, HMMCW has proven itself time and again in its will to be a beacon of excellence.

In monumentally challenging times of the pandemic, HMMCW has maintained its regular activities, even adapted new conditions of online teaching. HMMCW uninterruptedly worked for NIRF rankingsentered data in AISHE. The students and teachers have won several awards. Students have been placed at different institutions and companies; our Career counselling and Placement Cell is very active to groom our students for the future job market.

HMMCW’s rich and culturally vibrant teachers worked hard for the mental wellness of the students. We also offered generous financial aid in the form of aids and freeships to students; even teaching and non-teaching staff created a pandemic fund to help students to complete their studies.

Multiple outreach programmes, exchange programmes and initiatives enrich students, in the course of their study and give them access to transform lives. HMMCW has rich infrastructure, a resourceful library, green and clean campus, ICT-enabled classrooms,  seminar halls, open space and common rooms. Our dedicated faculty  update themselves consistently. Seminars, workshops are our regular activities; we continued to hold numerous workshops and online sessions during the pandemic also. Several Intellectual Property Rights and research methodology workshops were conducted through the course of the year, which proves that HMMCW works tirelessly for research development also. We at HMMCW continuously strive for educational excellence. Our teaching-learning process is constantly evolving and with the changing times, we aspire and successfully create global leaders. We believe that the highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence.

It is our pride to welcome you all to Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women, a prominent and transformative college of North 24 Parganas to grab the opportunity of higher education, as well as to enrich your knowledge by getting entry in certificate/add-on and value added courses. Multiple entries and certificates as approved and affiliated under West Bengal State University will help you to combat the challenges of the global job market. HMMCW compassionately works to empower women belonging to minority sections, SC, ST, OBC and other underprivileged communities.

The College is affiliated to West Bengal State University, Barasat, A university with strong academic zeal. The West Bengal State University is continuously trying to incorporate its units, i.e. the colleges in its decision making process. NAAC’s re-accreditation in 2016 with a B++ grade has elevated the college with potentiality in the minds of the local population, as well as within the academic environment of the College.

Embraced by nature's beauty, bestowed with tranquillity, Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women is the epitome of knowledge, virtue and righteousness.  The College is taking small steps with all sincerity, dedication, determination and devotion to herald an academic atmosphere to facilitate pedagogic learning yoked to practical application of said learning in different vistas of life.

The College aims at training young women to be the leaders in all walks of life, who we hope will play a vital role in bringing about the desired change in the betterment of the people of our country.  I am convinced that the joint endeavour of all members of the Governing Body, IQAC, all the staff and stakeholders, guardians, parents and most importantly West Bengal State University would shoulder the responsibility to ascertain a brighter future for the college and its students.

The strength of our college is its staff; both teaching and non-teaching, whose commitment and dedication have made a difference to the lives of the students leading them to become socially conscious and responsible citizens of the country.

The College library has more than 19,000 books to provide academic support to the students.  The NLIST and NPTEL programmes facilitate the opportunity of e-learning to its students. It is an opportune moment to acknowledge the contribution of Sri Sarada Math, Rasik Bhita, Professor Ashok Mukhopadhyay, former Netaji Subhas Chair Professor of Calcutta University, P. C. Chandra Group, staff and students for their generous contribution of books and financial aid to the library. The Book Bank facility in the library is an added advantage for students belonging to the low income groups and first generation learners.

The system of periodic teacher-evaluation done by the students, regular parents- teacher meeting, regular academic audit by Academic sub-committee and IQAC and the internal monitoring mechanisms for the teachers and administration of the college are few regulating mechanisms through which the academic ambience is sustained. With this energy and zeal the college is now gearing up for the third cycle of NAAC reaccreditation.

Our college is one which truly inspires excellence and makes a world of difference.

“Change yourself to change the world” and therefore choose this college for your ward.
