Bengali department was the first honours department of the college. The department was set up in 1959, the year of establishment of the college. Starting from the journey it was general department. The honours subject was introduced since 1995. So this department offered Bengali honours course as well as general course. The department always encourage and guide their students for consistency progress in their result and other academic activities. General course and Honours course was introduced in 1959 and 1995 respectively. Department is having with Departmental room, One well equipped seminar library & also shares all other central infrastructure of the college. Total Intake capacity of the department is 106 along with UR- 68, SC 23, ST 7, OBC-A 5, OBC-B 3, 3% of each category PC

Students’ Seminar: The yearly student’s seminar saw two students of the first year, Nilabho Chanda, and Dipro Roy, holding forth on two presentations. The rapt audience learned about the development of the sonnet in Elizabethan England courtesy Dipro and the decline of drama in the Jacobean period in English courtesy Nilabho. The Department of English looks forward to holding more such events in the near future.
