About Food & Nutrition Department

“NUTRITION IS NOT JUST ABOUT EATING, ITS ABOUT LEARNING TO LIVE”…. Year of establishment: Honours course in 2006 and General course in 2014. The inception of the B.Sc. Honours course in Food and Nutrition in 2006 with affiliation to the University of Calcutta. Initially, the number of students who enrolled themselves in the Part I Food and Nutrition Honours curriculum was not more than 10. Five years later, i.e., in 2011, the college faced a change in affiliation to West Bengal State University, Barasat (North 24 Parganas). Gradually, with the expansion of the department, the B.Sc. General Course in Food and Nutrition started in 2014. Only IInd & IIIrd year general students in 2013. The huge popularity of the subject due to its practical aspect and good job prospects, the department has been an important part of the institution since its establishment. The UG Honours course in Food and Nutrition is structured in an interdisciplinary manner. It contains major sections on Physiology, Epidemiology, Biochemistry, Food chemistry, and microbiology, which are autonomous disciplines in their own right. The department frequently organises international, national seminars, workshops, and extension lecture poster presentations for the development of students’ quality firsthand and building a research oriented mindset among the students. The department also has highly qualified teachers. Infrastructure: Departmental room, 2 well-equipped laboratory, departmental Seminar library and also shares all other central infrastructure of the college, like ICT enabled classroom, library, etc.
